Located in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego, the John F. Duffy Administrative Center serves as the headquarters office for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.


The Sheriff, his executive staff and many of the administrative support units moved to this building in the early 1990's after having been located for years in downtown San Diego adjacent to the old Central Jail.  This move allowed the Sheriff's Department to combine many previously decentralized services into a more modern, professional environment. 


The Sheriff's headquarters building was dedicated in memory of San Diego County's 26th Sheriff, the late John F. Duffy.  Sheriff Duffy served the Sheriff's Department from 1953 until his retirement in 1991, including five terms as Sheriff (1971-1991).
