Introduction

The City of Vista is strategically located between Southern California’s largest trading centers: Los Angeles is 90 miles to the North, Orange County 45 miles North and San Diego 35 miles South. This dynamic city is located seven miles from the pacific ocean. It has been called the "climatic wonderland" of the United States. Vista is acknowledged to have probably the finest and most moderate climate of any city in the United States. The City has six times the national average number of parks.

Despite tremendous growth, Vista still enjoys a low crime rate that is more often associated with a small town.  This is a testament to the close working relationship between the Sheriff’s Department and the Vista community.  The main sheriff’s station is located in the North County Regional Law Complex, which houses several County offices, including; the superior court, district attorney’s office, probation and the Vista Detention Facility.

The Vista Sheriff’s Station also maintains a Neighborhood Policing Team who works in partnership with residents and social service agencies to establish a presence in the community, identify and resolve conflicts before they escalate into criminal offenses.

The Vista Station provides a variety of services including:

  • Patrol:  First responders to law enforcement calls for service.
  • Traffic:  First responders who primarily enforce traffic laws, investigate traffic collisions, and support the patrol division.
  • Investigations: Conducts follow-up investigations on criminal cases.
  • COPPS:  ("Community Oriented Policing") Uniformed deputies devoted to problem solving within the community.
  • Crime Prevention:  Provides education for crime reduction & awareness.
  • Explorers:  Volunteer youth program affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Senior Volunteer Patrols: Seniors who conduct vacation and YANA checks and enforce handicapped parking violations.
  • Psychiatric Emergency Response Team:  Provides humane and beneficial outcomes for mentally disoriented persons who have come to the attention of law enforcement.
  • Domestic Violence Response Team
