The San Diego Sheriff's Departments Special Enforcement Detail is a full time tactical team whose mission is to provide a variety of support services to our department, as well as to other public safety agencies throughout the region.

The Special Enforcement Detail (S.E.D.) operates on a mission basis and each mission is prioritized. Requests for tactical support usurp requests of lesser priority.

S.E.D. falls under the command of the Departments Emergency Services Division Captain. It is a full time unit which is comprised of a Administrative Secretary II, One Lieutenant, Two Sergeants, Six Corporals and Twelve Deputy Sheriffs.

A nine member Special Response Team (S.R.T.) augments the full time team. S.R.T. is comprised of Deputy Sheriff's whose full time assignments are outside of Emergency Services, but who have successfully completed the Sheriff's Departments two week Basic S.W.A.T. Academy . S.R.T. Deputies fully participate in all S.E.D. missions as well as weekly training venues.

S.E.D. is also supported by a compliment of one Reserve Sergeant and five Reserve Deputy Sheriff's. These individuals provide valuable support to the team in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, the operation of our Armored Personnel Carriers and S.W.A.T. Bus.
