TRAFFIC:
According to recent public surveys, increased traffic congestion and speeding are two major concerns of our community. Deputy sheriffs and statistics support this assessment.

Speeding violations have become the number one cause of collisions within our jurisdiction. Traffic light violations ranks second in the cause of collisions.

The Traffic Division at the Poway Sheriff's Station is responsible for traffic control in the city of Poway. The California Highway Patrol bears those responsibilities in the unincorporated area, including the 4S Ranch area.

The City of Poway contracts all of its traffic enforcement to the Sheriff's Department which deploys its black and white patrol cars and motorcycles around the clock throughout the year.

Traffic Deputies are armed with radar and Lidar (laser). In addition, two radar trailers are used in Poway. They are deployed as both an enforcement tool (people do slow down when they see the trailer displaying speeds) and for statistic gathering purposes to assess speed limits or whether other inhibitors are needed.
