FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

MEGAN'S LAW

  • The Megan's Law CD-ROM is available for viewing at the Poway Sheriff's Station on Tuesdays between 9:00 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. To use this service, please call in advance at (858) 513-2800.

    You must:

  • Be a California resident (military personnel assigned in California also acceptable),
  • Bring a valid California driver's license or identification card,
  • Be 18 years of age or over. Persons under 18 must bring a parent or guardian.
  • Sign a statement that you are not a registered sex offender; that you understand the purpose of the release of information is for the public to protect themselves and their children from sex offenders; and that it is illegal to use the information to harass, discriminate or commit a crime against any registrant. You may be required to state a distinct purpose for viewing the CD-ROM, if required by local law enforcement.
  • Viewing time is limited to 15 minutes.

SAN DIEGO TRAFFIC COURT

  • The San Diego Traffic Court is a separate county agency. They may be reached by calling (858) 565-1006. It may be helpful to have a pen or pencil ready prior to calling. There is no operator available; however, there is an extensive recording, which provides general information, court location, court hours and directions to the court.
  • Although the Sheriff's Department will be more than happy to assist you with directions to the San Diego Traffic Court, we are unable to conduct any court business including payment of fines or granting a continuance on your court appearance date.
CITATION SIGNOFFS:

  • Most mechanical violations (fix-it tickets) can be signed off after the appropriate corrections have been made. Bring the citation and the vehicle to the Poway Sheriff's Station during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). A charge of $15.00 is required for this service
FINGERPRINTING SERVICES:

  • Fingerprinting services are provided Monday through Friday by appointment only. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (858) 513-2800 during normal business office hours. Appointments can usually be scheduled within a week of your telephone call. The fee is $22.00 per fingerprint card. Payment may be made by cash or check. If paying by check, proper identification must be presented. Valid identification such as driver's license or passport must be presented by the person requesting the fingerprints.
OBTAINING A COPY OF YOUR REPORT:

  • Copies of all reports taken by the Poway Sheriff's Station personnel are retained for two years at the station. After two years, requests should be referred to the Sheriff's Records Division. They can be reached at (858) 974-2110.
  • The fee for report copies is $20.00. There is no charge for the first copy of a report provided to a victim.
  • Traffic accident reports may be released to any person named in the report, their attorney or insurance company.
  • Crime reports may be released with the authorization of the detective assigned to the report. There are circumstances in which no report will be released. For further clarification, please contact our business office.
  • A subpoena is required for the release of all follow-up reports.

  • Questions concerning Small Claims Court should be referred to the court. The phone number is (858) 694-2066.
CIVIL ACTIONS:
