COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICERS:
Community Service Officers are unarmed, uniformed personnel who perform a variety of duties. They can be identified by their distinctive blue uniforms. By performing many of the more routine, non-emergency, and report writing duties, patrol deputies are available to respond to emergency calls and make arrests.

Typical duties for City of Poway Community Service Officers are:

  • Traffic control at accidents, fires, etc.
  • Speed trailer set up and tear down.
  • Walk/check local parks.
  • Take certain reports (criminal or incident) in person, at the station counter, or by phone.
  • Write warning/parking citations and tow vehicles.
  • Other special assignments.

Additionally, some Community Service Officers are trained in traffic investigations and can take non-injury collision reports.
