In San Diego, among the abuse of Vicodin, Adderall, Soma, Xanax, Ambien,
Codeine, Methadone and Fentanyl, OxyContin is fast
becoming the drug of choice for children and young
adults between the ages of 14 and 30. A significant
number of young people, generally students between 17-25
years of age, are buying OxyContin from street level
dealers, in the United States, Mexico and illegally over
the Internet. The green 80 milligram tablet is the most
popular dosage unit and is commonly sold on the street
for $40--$80.
Hot spots for abuse in San Diego have been in upper middle class neighborhoods such as Torrey
Pines, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, and Tierrasanta.
However, no neighborhood is excluded.
