The George F. Bailey Detention Facility is the largest of the Sheriff's detention facilities. The California Corrections Standards Authority  rated capacity for the facility is 1,332 inmates. The self rated capacity is 1,696.

The facility was built to house maximum security inmates and opened for occupancy on April 4, 1993. It is situated in a complex along with the East Mesa Detention Facility, Facility 8 and C.C.A., a privately run detention facility for federal inmates.
