Employment and Testing


San Diego County Sheriff's Dispatchers work in an exciting environment, answering 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls from the public for law enforcement and public safety services.  We dispatch various patrol, detective, and specialized units to those calls.

The Sheriff's Communications Center is located in the Kearny Mesa area of San Diego and is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  We work in a state of the art facility with fully adjustable ergonomic workstations, utilizing some of the most advanced radio and computer systems in public safety.


If you applied for the entry level position of Radio Trainee anytime before April 2008 and were unsuccessful with the test, you are now eligible to reapply.
   
Test Dates: Saturday, May 17th, 2008
Saturday, June 21st, 2008
Saturday July 19th, 2008
Time: Sign up for test times begin at 6:00 AM on each test date.  The only time to sign up for a test time is at 6:00 AM on the morning of each test date.  It is suggested applicants arrive early, as seating is limited.

Directions:
  • From Interstate 163, exit Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and travel east, or;

  • From Interstate 15, exit Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and travel west

  • Continue straight on Clairemont Mesa to Complex St.

  • Turn north on Complex St. to Topaz Way.

  • The entrance is the gate to the San Diego County Operations Center where Complex St. and Topaz Way meet.  Parking is available next door at the San Diego Wastewater parking lot.

Lateral Applicants
If you have at least one year of radio dispatching experience with a municipal law enforcement or fire public safety agency, you may qualify for our lateral position of Emergency Services Dispatcher.  If you believe you qualify for this position, review the minimum requirements by clicking here before applying.
