At a glance,
Sheriff's Reserves can't be distinguished from the regular deputy
sheriffs with whom they work. Both wear the same uniforms with
the same badges, and insignias and drive the same distinctive
black and white patrol cars. Reserve Deputies handle many of the
same type of incidents as their full time counterparts and are
required to meet stringent entry level and in-service training
requirements as well as background checks established by the State
of California. Reserve Deputies have full peace officer powers
while on duty.
Reserve Deputies
work regular shifts in the Patrol Division, many devoting 30 to
40 hours a month or more with the Sheriff's Department. Some have
been serving 30 years and have logged thousands of hours of community
service at no charge to the taxpayers. The Reserve Deputies assigned
to the Lemon Grove Station provide a valuable service to the community
through their selfless dedication to duty. They are often utilized
during special events such as the annual Lemon Grove Old Time
Days festivities as well as the annual Casa de Oro Fall Festival.
Additionally,
some of the Reserve Deputies assigned to the Lemon Grove Station
also serve in a support role with the Sheriffs Special Enforcement
Detail (SWAT). If you are interested in joining the team, please
contact the Sheriffs Reserve Coordinators office at
(619) 956-4900.
