The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has been providing contract law enforcement services to the
City of Lemon Grove since it became incorporated in 1977. In the role of the city's "Police Department", the men and women of the Lemon Grove Station provide all aspects of law enforcement services including patrol, traffic, COPPS, crime prevention and investigations. Additionally, the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Station provides law enforcement services, excluding traffic enforcement, to the over 107,000 residents who reside in the unincorporated communities of Spring Valley, Rancho San Diego, Jamul, Mt. Helix, Casa de Oro, La Mesa and El Cajon. The California Highway Patrol provides traffic control and enforcement in these unincorporated areas.
