The Inmate Processing Division is comprised of three separate units: property rooms, jail information offices and custody processing. Each unit is unique in its mission and adheres to the standards set in the San Diego County Sheriff's Detentions Policy and Procedures manual, Inmate Processing Division's manuals, and all applicable state and federal regulations.

Each unit within the Inmate Processing Division performs their assigned duties within the seven Sheriff's Detention Facilities. Each unit provides specialized services and assistance to various governmental agencies, citizens and professional members of the community. Most of these employees perform their assigned duties on a 7/24 schedule. They are responsible for a myriad of duties that affect the custody status and property of over 5,000 inmates per day.

Staff assigned to this division perform a vital role in accomplishing the goals of the Detention Services Bureau. Stock Clerks working in the property rooms safeguard inmate property and ensure the property is returned to the inmate upon release. Detentions Information Assistants working in the Jail Information office assist the public and professionals in responding to inquiries, scheduling inmate visits and conducting various monetary services. Detentions Processing Technicians book inmates into custody, track custody status and process the release of the inmates, based on legal mandates.
