Community Service Officers

The blue-uniformed Community Service Officers perform a number of valuable services for the Traffic Division in the City of Encinitas. They assist with traffic control, parking enforcement, man the radar trailers and perform other duties, particularly as they relate to "cold crimes." Their work on such non-violent crimes as bicycle theft and shop lifting free the time of deputy sheriffs to pursue more serious matters.

The CSO team is primarily responsible for abandoned vehicle abatement. Encinitas regulations deem a vehicle abandoned if it sits on a public street for more than 72 straight hours. If you have an abandoned vehicle in your neighborhood, you are invited to call the Community Service Officer team at (760) 966-3500.

Also assisting the Traffic Division in all three cities is the Senior Volunteer Patrol. They are particularly active in shopping center patrols to enforce handicapped parking regulations. Vigorous enforcement and heavy fines imposed have seen a steady decline in these violations. Local fines for violating handicapped parking rules are: Encinitas $335.00, Solana Beach $340.00, Del Mar $280.00, and the unincorporated area $330.00.
